Talk:Time slip
From The Kim Stanley Robinson Encyclopedia
Real-world information
This article could be one of our early test cases for how to deal with separating real-world from in-universe information in the article, as there is information about the literary origin of the term "time-slip" currently located under a "Realted Info" header. You could argue that since Philip K. Dick's novel was written before the Mars future history splits off from real-life history, so that's probably where the colonists got the term and it's still in-universe. But we know that Robinson studied PKD and we might want to say that that's where Robinson himself got the term, at which point "Related Info" wouldn't be enough of a separation, as it does not imply out-of-universe, and it looks the same as the in-universe headers in the article.
Does anyone have ideas about ways to make an obvious visual separation for real-world information? Perhpas putting it inside a table with a gray (or other color) background? thoreaubred 14:28, 9 August 2006 (MDT)
- Do you not think the 'Related info' subsection is enough? Carlos 17:04, 9 August 2006 (MDT)
- For inclduing real world info/literary analysis on an in-universe article? Definitely not. We all agreed early on that the visual separation should be very obvious. But "Related Info" doesn't look any different than any in-universe headers that might exist above it, and it also doesn't suggest that we're stepping out of universe. You would write an in-universe article about something and then have a section for "Related Info" where you talk about related in-universe info. There's no clear separation there. thoreaubred 18:02, 9 August 2006 (MDT)
- Ok, well I guess we should make a template for that. Then just put {{RW}} at the start of the sections and {{/RW}} at the end of the section. We can build those templates at some point. Something like a specific coloured box, like you said, would be fine, but all that info can go in the template. Carlos 18:07, 9 August 2006 (MDT)
