Mars Homepage

Just a first attempt. Obviously could do with some improvement, but better than a blank slate, no?

Are we going with alternate home pages / the illusion of separate encyclopedias?

This article suggests that you're running with that idea. If we are going with that idea, we need to clear up a little confusion about the links at the bottom of Template:Mars_base: My intention was for those to link back to the three hompages, so that "The Mars Trilogy" would link to this article, not to the Mars Trilogy article. Mars as One Novel vs. Trilogy

I'm in favor of treating Mars like a three-volume novel, rather than a trilogy of three independent novels. KSR has always referred to it as a novel (i.e. "my Mars novel" or "the Mars novel"); I've never heard him refer to it as a trilogy or series. He's even explicitly said that he considers it one novel in three volumes. Therefore, I think we should avoid articles about specific volumes, and any other focus on specific volumes such as the "The Books" table currently on the right side of this article. I think we should always refer to Mars as one work. This is a win-win idea, because it makes things easier for us at the same time as being consistent with KSR's own view of Mars as one novel. thoreaubred

Sure, it's one novel, but it's still 3 books. The same reasons that made it sensible to publish them as three volumes are the same reasons that make it sensible for us to document them seperately. Please see my detailed response atTalk:Red_Mars. Carlos 18:44, 2 August 2006 (MDT)
